Comfy Org announced native Trellis.2 and Pixal3D support on August 31, with updated 3D loading, preview and export tools.
Start here
A generated mesh is only useful if it survives the next step in your project. Before treating native 3D generation as a shortcut, decide where the asset needs to go: a background render, an animation or an interactive scene. This announcement is worth understanding through that destination, not just through an impressive preview.
What changed
Comfy Org says both models now run as core nodes, with rebuilt 3D tools and mesh post-processing. Its announcement describes an expanded material workflow. The integration reduces reliance on separate custom-node installations for this specific pipeline.
Start with a small asset
The announcement points readers to ComfyUI 0.34.0, templates and model download instructions. Use the linked guide for the current requirements. We have not measured memory use or rendering time on a local GPU.
Our take: evaluate the exported mesh
A good preview is the beginning of an asset check. Use a simple object with an obvious front and back, then bring the output into the application where you intend to use it. Define a usable result before changing settings.
- Inspect the silhouette from viewpoints absent from the source image.
- Check thin parts, holes and hidden surfaces.
- Inspect material maps under neutral lighting.
- Record cleanup time as part of the cost of an accepted asset.
Where this fits
Our starting point would be a prototype asset with a modest cleanup budget. A close-up hero prop has different acceptance criteria from a background object. Keep the source image, workflow and exported mesh together so you can repeat a promising run. This is workflow advice, not a measured ranking of 3D models.
